Every once in a while I get the opportunity to jump on a plane and head somewhere new and exciting, and in this case tropical and exotic as well!
I was fortunate to have been invited to photograph Beth & Jorge’s destination wedding in the seaside town of Tulum. Tulum is located on the Caribbean coast of Mexico about an hour and a half drive from Cancun. I love shooting destination weddings for many reasons, one being the change of pace and another being the inspiration gained through uncharted characteristics of a completely unfamiliar environment. And on the social end, I really enjoy getting to know a smaller set of guests and family over the course of several days.
I can’t begin to express how fun this particular wedding was; from the breathtaking scenery, complete with Tulum’s historic Mayan ruins, to the amazing food and warm welcome I received from everyone in attendance to celebrate Beth & Jorge, or “Coco,” as he is more fondly known! I was able to connect with a few fellow Angelinos from Beth’s family (Joanna, Jordan, Rhonda and Mike) on the plane flight over and they quickly adopted me as one of their own. Upon arriving, I was invited to the welcome dinner and to some of the best fish tacos I’ve ever indulged in….. I mean you can’t go wrong with fresh sautéed Grouper, ha ha!
The wedding day itself unfolded with a relaxed and comfortable tone, with the exception of the heat and humidity that contributed to a few extra days at the dry cleaners for my poor shirt! In all honesty, the level of love and laughter I witnessed was truly heartwarming and really made a day of “work” feel like a privilege. Even sifting through images for this post was difficult, as there were so many more “real” moments of joy that I would’ve liked to have posted. I hope you enjoy the chosen glimpses into this fabulous wedding.
Thank you again Beth & Jorge for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of such an incredible celebration. Cheers!
